Members and friends join forces each year in July with Project Shine to spruce up local schools by cleaning, painting and updating classrooms and other facilities. Anyone 16 years or older is welcome to be part of our Missions Team by signing up through the church office (816-525-6662).

School Supplies are collected and taken to Independence Schools as well as the Community Service League for their back-to-school store. Each year, we provide carloads of supplies to help local elementary schools in educating students.
Filling brown paper bags with food and other household necessities for Community Service League is an ongoing project throughout the year. The response has been overwhelming and greatly appreciated during these hard times.
The Mission Committee collects items to fill flood buckets and personal hygiene kits for the Presbytery to send to places in distress. Lists of the items needed are available online and through the church office (816-525-6662). You may bring items to the church anytime throughout the year.

The Harvesters foodbank has been supported members and friends volunteering one Saturday morning each month for over 16 years. Various tasks performed include boxing food collected from food drives, sorting and boxing bread, and helping with bags for fundraising drives. Many of these can be performed while seated for those with mobility or stamina limitations.

Handmade quilts for Drumm Farm children |
The foster children of Drumm Farm have been chosen by our Sew & Sows group as recipients of their beautiful, handmade quilts. Everyone is welcome to lend their nimble fingers to providing a child with his or her very own touch of home. The Sew & Sows meet the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in Westminster Hall; contact the church office for more information. Recently, they toured Drumm Farm and were pleased to see their quilts on many beds. The goal is to make a quilt for every boy and girl living there and have enough on hand for new arrivals. Each quilt is a gift to the child and becomes his or her personal possession.

By collecting Pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House we help to turn trash into cash that can be used to ensure out-of-town families of hospitalized children have a nearby place to stay.

Festival of SharingFestival of Sharing draws many members of friends from First Church as the congregation responds to needs worldwide. During the October festival each year, we take Reading’ & Writin’ Packs, Flood Buckets and Health Kits, as well as a handmade quilt for charity auction. This is just another opportunity for us to follow God’s lead in meeting the needs of those left largely forgotten throughout the world.
